The Presidential campaign is in full swing, and both sides are taking jabs at each other. An Obama advertisement criticized McCain’s lack of computer skills. In the commercial, an announcer notes McCain “still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail.” Ouch!! John McCain cannot send an e-mail because he is physically unable to do so. He was tortured by the Viet-Cong while a prisoner of war. Not to be outdone, click on the above link to read about Obama’s running mate Joe Biden’s “designer cuff links” and “Questions about his hairline.” Does being able to send an email or having a full set of hair really matter in this election? This is mudslinging. A term used in politics to describe the negative ads put forth against opponents. Mudslinging is nothing new in politics. In 1876 the opponents of Rutherford B. Hayes spread a rumor that he shot his own mother in a fit of rage. A complete lie! In this present election there is a lot of mudslinging taking place, it’s quite easy to lose sight of what really matters: who is the best person to run our country? To best answer that question, we must carefully look where the candidates stand on the issues. Some of these issues include national security, healthcare, taxes, immigration, education, the war in Iraq, energy, etc… Again, these are only a few of the big issues, and I’ve left out many important ones you probably think are vital.
In your opinion, what are the two most important issues and why. After you have considered this, I want you to post a response. Be sure to explain what issue you feel is the most important and also the second most important issue; don’t forget to explain WHY for both of your choices.

I think the number one issue is their beliefe in God, because I want a leader that will make Godly and wise choices. And number two, their experience, because I think my leader should be well qualified.
I believe the number one issue is abortion! I believe Obama is all for abortion. Which I believe is definitely and completely horrible!!! The second most important issue is not showing respect! We all need to respect other peoples' believes! Obama does not show any respect for Americas' beleives! Obama only respects his believes!!!
I think the number 1 issue is how much do they care and respect the Lord and do they believe in God. The second reason I think is education because they have to teach us all the important stuff to know and if were not smart enough then we will go down hill for all that they have worked for.
I think the number one issue is believing in God. Whoever will be elected needs to know the Lord. And the number two issue is they need to care about the people who get hurt, and their healthcare. they need to pay attention to that.
I think the #1 reason is or energy. We shouldn't need to depend on foreign oil to power our cars. We can get natural gas from around the United States. The #2 reason is immagration. The president should know who is coming into our country. They should know how many people are coming in and make sure they are not terrorists. He should know they aren't coming illegally.
I think the future presedent will have to deal with two majore issues the war and the economy.
I agree with Jacob, I think another major issue is abortion, I like Sarah Palin because she is Pro-life!
rxuxI think the two most important things in america is probably abortian and immagration. I believe that abortian is terrable. i think little children should be able to to live and that they have every right to live. People should think more of others what if you were on of those babys.I also think gas prices are terrable they need to be taken care of. Because people need to be able to even get there food and drop there kids of at school every day.I realy think the gas prices should be lowered. i have seen much more people car pulling and riding there bikes or even walking. People are doing everything they can to save gas
i also believe claires blog very much.
I think the number one issue is that we have a christian lioke person to do Good choices for our country and not dum decisions. Number two issue is that we should pick someone who has watched and knows what to do ND Has had experience!!!! Ill give an example Sarah Palin I do not think should be vise president because she is nice and good but she has had no experience!!!
I think the most important issue is education because today's children are tommorows adults. We need to teach young children about our country. I think that the second most important issue is abortion because it's hurting the future of the United States.
I think the most important issues are believing in God and having good experience. I think this because I want a president who belives in God to run the country that I live in. Also, having good experience is very important too. The preident has to know to know how to run the country. John McCain is well suited for this job! :-)
I think the number one issue is a president who belives in God. I want a leader that belives in God and will make good choices in the future that is Godly. Secondly, the experience. Like what Abby said we need a leader that is well qualified.
I also agree with Jacob, abortion is really bad! Also we will need a respectful, trustworthy, loyal, president.
I agree that the president should be a christian and that they should really care for those who do not have enough money to afford the ridiculous gas prices. I think it's really idiotic that someone wouldn't vote for McCain just because he can't use a computer. I'm extreamly confused why McCain can't use a computer. Can anyone explain? I know Mr. Mercereau said that it had something to do with him being captured by the Viet-Cong (who's that?). What type of torture did they give him so that now he can't use a computer?
I think mudslinging is really stupid. You get so caught up in trying to make the other person look bad that you loose sight of what's really important....taking care of our country.
Outstanding comments. Well thought out and stated nicely. I’m Proud of you 6th grade! Many of you have stated Christian values as being the most important. I couldn’t agree more and this tells me you have your priorities in line-great job!
Other important issues include energy sources (gasoline price), the war, experience and healthcare. I can’t disagree with any of those choices.
Matthew and Mackenzie, you and I certainly agree about the importance of education. I guess that why God made me a teacher.
Alexis, you stated your answer very succinctly (you’ll have to look that word up), but I’d like to see a little more response than one sentence.
Hannah, you asked two very good questions, and as good as they are, I am going to respectfully defer those answers to a later time. How about you asking your parents what they know about the Viet-Cong? Maybe discuss with them some of the things that took place. Of the many goals I have planned for these blogs, one of them is to challenge you to learn more. Look up some of your questions and investigate your thoughts, I promise the information is out there. Also, I hope to stimulate conversation within your family. These current events affect us all, and awareness combined with knowledge is powerful!
I think the most important issue is our taxes!!! Everything is so expensive now! Gas used to be like $2.00 and now it's almost $4.00!!!! What is up with that!
The second most important issue is healtcare. Some people can't afford it because it is so expensive!!!! Again, because of our taxes.
I think we need a president that cares about OUR issues. Not just thiers.
Mudslinging is so dumb. All they are doing is being mean to the other candidate. Do we really want a president that is going to be like that for four years?
They get caught up in being rude to the other person that they aren't thinking about more important issues like taxes, gas prices and other issues.
I think the number one reason is the person's belief in God. I would like a leader who makes wise and Godly choices. The second most important thing is that the person is thrustworthy. I know some people say they will do one thing but really do something compelety opposite.
The econony and the war are the two most important things today. The econony because the prices on everything our going up on food, gas, and taxes. The war because we've been in it for 5 years. There are some people that want to stay in it and some people that want out. My cousin,Josh, fought in the war at Iraq and it is important to my hole family and me.The most important is the war.
I think that the most important issue is the canidate that wins KNOWS what the seperation of church and state really means. It does mean that the state does not have one church that evrybody has to believe in and attend but it doesn't mean that Christ and churches should be kept from pollitics. I think the second most important issue is Energy. Drill in Alaska, and off the Florida coast then slowly introduce alternitives so that we have a good 5-10 years for the technology to catch up with the ideas.
The biggest issue in America I think is the economy many people don't have jobs and many buisnesses are down sizing and making fewer jobs. The cause of that is the gas prices because people aren't eating out as much or shopping. That is the second issue, gas prices if we just get gas from alaska we would have more jobs and lower gas prices then people would shop more and eat out. Then we would be okay for a while until we find a formula to making the enery of gas or using soloar cars or water cars to be able to transport ourselves.
Call me a tree hugger, but I believe the number 1 issue is the environment. We should recycle more of our paper, glass, and metals, create more wind farms, and we should try to drill for more oil in Alaska. We need to support our world for our future generations. I also believe that a godly leader is what our country needs. we need to support other countries, it would help us in the future.
I think the most important issue is gas prices, because my mom sais that it is just killing us financally. And it makes me mad that the tax pricers are getting rich while we're just getting broke!!
I agree with Abby, Matthew, and Claire the number 1 issue is spiritual beliefs and if they believe in God. I want a president who believes in God and share my beliefs. Another major issue is to try to stop terrorism. We need to protect our country.
I agree with Amanda, gas prices are the most important issue, to me. And Amanda, gas used to be less than a dollar before 1980. Gas prices are the most important issue, to me, because in 28 years it has gone up over 400% and when they go up so does everything eltse. The second most important issue ,to me, is the war. We shouldn't pull our troops out as soon as posible, we need to finnish fighting the war before we bring our troops home. Not doing so in my oppinion is inviting the war here.
The number one issue to me would be gas prices because gas has gone nuts I mean $4.00 a gallon that’s crazy. And my second issue is the war in Iraq because we are trying to pull out most of the troops and senator McCain to delay it, I mean come on!And it's really weird that gas was 23 cents a gallon in 1965. And I agree with Hannah mudslinging is stupid.
I think the #1 choice is for them to have faith in God and make Godly choices. I think that abortion, immigration, and energy are the most important issues. Energy is where I agree with alex, we shouldn't have to have gases coming from other foreign countries that we don't know about. I also believe that abortion is TERRIBLE,as jacob said Obama is all out for abortion. I think that immigration is the #2 issue. I think the President should know who's coming into our country when their from a foreign country. I believe that whoever is elected should make Godly choices as I said before. GO JOHN MCCAIN!!!!
